To IVF or not to IVF?

Question

Looking for insights and advice. Just trying to figure out how I feel about IVF for me personally. It may be suggested for DH and I and honestly at this point I don't know whether or not it's something I could handle. (Have to add that I fully support everyone else's decisions to do or not do IVF.) My story: TTC for about 3 years, DH just got a diagnosis of low sperm count with varicocele. We have had lots of testing and and finally general fertility consult scheduled later this week. So what are your feelings on IVF?Thoughts? Advice? Pros and cons?

Update: Just went to our fertility consult appointment and found it very helpful!! I'm surprised how much more positive I now feel about IVF. Given our specific circumstances, Dr felt we are great candidates. I'm still a little undecided but 1. It wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be, 2. Higher success rate than I thought, 3. Dr wasn't pushy about things one way or the other, love the way he presented the info. 4. The process is much faster than I thought it would be.

​It's interesting to me how different my opinions can be compared to what I thought my opinions would be... I would have expected that I would feel more in favor of adopting than I actually do, and I'm surprised how much adopting just doesn't feel like the right option for my husband and I. I'm also surprised how I'm starting to feel good about the possibility of IVF.

It is a pretty scary roller coaster but it's almost certainly the only way DH and would ever be able to have a family so it's a roller coaster I'll get on. 
​The physical aspects (ie injections, transvaginal ultrasounds and egg collection, I didn't get to embryo transfer last time) are ok. I didn't get too many side effects and injections were fine. But the stress and emotional parts are the hardest. There are hurdles that I never expected but it's a learning process and we've gone from unexplained infertility to discovering now what our problem is. 
​If it works then it'll have been worth all the heart ache. You've just got to weigh up in your own mind if it's worth it or maybe you'd be just as happy (or accepting) of an adopted child or maybe just not having a family.

DH & I started the fertility treatment option. Ask your Dr about DH taking Clomid. My DH had a zero, I repeat, zero sperm count due to cancer. He was put on Clomid and in 30 days, had hundreds of thousands. Still not "normal" but a drastic improvement. He continues to take it & hoping it helps! However, IVF is a great option if you want it. I'm all for it if it helps build your family.
