Young pregnancies.

A good friend of mine just found out her daughter's favorite cousin who is 13 is pregnant. Her daughter is 9 and is very distraught because her mom and grandmother have told her that she can no longer talk to her cousin.

I understand the fear they may have that she could get the wrong idea and possibly put herself in the same situation, however, I don't think their approach is beneficial.

I personally think they'll do more harm than good by isolating her instead of actually talking to her and explaining the situation. I believe the lack of communication and guidance from the adult figures is what will be the downfall of a lot of today's youth. If they don't learn it at home then they'll learn it elsewhere.

What do you think? How would you handle this situation?
