Wanna try for a VBAC
This is my second pregnancy. For my first, my labor was induced because of pre-eclampsia. I labored for 48 hours without ever dilating. I was also only 15 and ended up with a cesarean with my first baby, who is now a happy and healthy 8 yr old.
My two pregnancies are almost exactly 9 years apart. This baby will be due less than two weeks after my daughter's 9th birthday. I want so badly to try for a vbac with this baby, considering I wanted to have a natural vaginal birth with my daughter.
On one hand, my OB/GYN office has made claims that I would be very likely to fail at a vbac and wouls have to have a repeat cesarean because I didn't dilate with my first labor. Their office does not offer the option of vbac due to the delivering hospital not having 24/7 anesthesiology coverage. I am also aware of increased risk of developing pre-eclampsia again.
However, I spoke with a CNM from another office. She said that they would definitely recommend a trial labor. Their vbac success rate at present is 85%.
I know having a repeat cesarean would be the easy way out for me. But at the same time, I want the chance to have what I feel like would be a more meaningful birthing experience this time. This will be my last pregnancy and I guess in a way, I want to prove to myself that I can do it, or at least be given the opportunity to try.
But after speaking to my doctor at my current OB/GYN I feel like failure is inevitable.
Anyone else had a similar experience? Tell me about it!
Disclaimer: no, I am not bashing c-section moms and don't think it was necessarily easy for anyone to have a c-section. I'm also not saying your births weren't meaningful.
