Sertraline (Zoloft) during pregnancy? So scared.

Question

I've been on 100mg since before I was 10. I'm 23 now, and I still take it. I'm 11.5 weeks pregnant, and I'm so scared for my baby's health. I plan on cutting my dose down tonight to 50, then go from there. I'm just so stupid to not start weaning sooner. I have severe anxiety and depression, I know happy mom = happy baby, but I can't help but worry that my baby has problems because of this medication. I go for my NT scan tomorrow so I'm praying everything looks good like it did at 6.1 weeks.

Has anyone else taken it in their first tri? Whole pregnancy? Was everything okay?

I'm doing IVF now so not pregnant.  But my fertility doctor said sertraline is the safest anti anxiety/antidepressant you can be on during pregnancy.  It's a schedule C. She said it would cause more harm to your baby if you have a panic attack, anxiety, etc.  I would not lower your dose without speaking to your obgyn first. You could be doing more harm. My cousin took it with all four of her boys. All her boys are rock solid- her oldest is 12. That is anecdotal evidence.

If you'd like medical evidence, I highly recommend pubmed.gov. Search 'zoloft pregnancy' and it will show you any published clinical and medical findings from worldwide verified studies. No pseudoscience. Its a wonderful site because the only studies available in the US are co administration studies, where a combination of drugs are being taken.

You are already almost at 12 weeks so pretty much what's done is done. I think in your case the benefits outweigh the risks. Pregnancy can cause depression and anxiety anyway so I would not stop taking it if I were you!

I switched with my Dr's orders to effexor which she deemed safer with my concerns. She actually didn't have any concerns about Zoloft. They were all mine if im remembering correctly. Don't wean yourself. Talk with your doctor.

I'm on Zoloft and during the first tri you're not suppose to take it but you already have so just keep taking it !
