Delayed bathing?

I hadn't even considered this. Idk if I will delay the bath a long time but this article makes me want baby's first bath to be a special moment with my husband and me.

We are going to wait at least 5 days to bathe our daughter. We are going to rub the vernix into her skin to keep her moisturized. It's crazy to me that hospitals just scrub it off right away.

I'm not bathing my baby for 4-5 days. My hospital will only bath them after 24 hours, and then even then it's up to us if we want to wait until we go home. I love it.

We waited to bathe my daughter. Lol the hospital had all nurses wear gloves to handle her. 😒 Still delaying bath for #2.

I rinsed him after 48 hours, and then four days after that...but no soap til almost a year.

I think we waited till the umbilical cord fell off. I can't remember if it was 6 or 9 days.

I delayed bathing until I felt like getting up and doing it myself. But my baby had next to no vernix left on him. It was only slightly in his little fat creases and the webs of his fingers so it wasn't a biggie but had he had vernix I would've waited until after we were home. The vernix is a natural substance that is there for a reason. The baby's skin is supposed to absorb that.

We are having a water birth of all goes as planned, we are delaying bath with soap for probably a week but may change that plan if there is a lot of blood on baby

We waited 2 weeks to give a good thorough bathe. We would sponge bathe her but that's about it. 
One it was because it took that long for the cord to fall off! 
And two, we wanted her coating to soak in.

What's the point of delaying a bath? Is all the gunk supposed to be good for them or something?

My hospital allowed us to choose if we wanted to be a part of her first bath, maybe ask if you could do it with their supervision. That way your baby isn't disgusting and uncomfortable.
