How do I look out for my boyfriend

So on Friday night my boyfriend got a call from his younger brother that his dad had hit their mom in the face.Thats the first time it happened.I'm trying really hard to be there for him and check up on him throughout the day but he doesn't say much or he's silent.We love each other very much but it's just so difficult for me to see him hurting.He's very loud and always full of joy so this is really taking a toll on him.How can I look out for him and support him more?I feel like he's pushing me away because since this happened he doesn't say I love you on the phone anymore and he's so distant.I just want my baby to be ok:-(
