IV Question- ok I know this seems super petty but getting the IV put in this place is soooooo painful. It seems unnecessary. Did anyone get to have it somewhere else??? Is it reasonable for me to ask them to move it? For some reason it's irritating me bad

That's one of the best places to have it because it is not a spot that bends. Elbow and wrist are not ideal for those reasons. If they move it it would just be another place on your arm.  I have always found them to be a pain in the ass anyway. Probably why I prefer to be on the starting end of the IV instead of the receiving end lol. Hang in there and if it looks red around the site bring it up to your nurse.

I've never had my hand stuck with a needle to draw blood until yesterday. I have a really good vein in my right arm but this nurse couldn't get any blood to come out. I've never had a problem with this arm not to mention a nurse just drew blood from my right arm 2 days before. So she stuck me in my left arm, NOTHING. So she decided to stick my vein in my left hand. My hand frickin hurts now. I had to ask for someone else because I felt like she didn't know what she was doing. So if you don't feel comfortable, I would say something.

That's actually a really good place for an iv.. Because you can't bend that area and cause it to kink I'm a nurse and this is our best site insertion, just leave it I know it's painful but it's only for a very short period of time x

That's where I had mine. She said it was to convince of me moving my arm when baby was Born. It was super uncomfortable and it hurt really bad when they placed it.

Agreed!!!! This is still my bruise from the IV when I gave birth! It still hurts.

You do not have to get an IV, if you don't want one. The hospital cannot force you, if they insist you can always compromise and just get the port done and not have it completely hooked up.
