What causes a mother to murder her infant?

I cannot seem to wrap my head around it? Why? How can you live with yourself? You could've prevented it. You could've had an abortion. You could've given the father full custody. Adoption? The options are endless.

You'd assume by the time the child is a few months old that the mother would have some sort of attachment to them.

PPD is a very serious very real thing. It causes people to lose their minds in extreme untreated cases. Being a mother is so hard, and if you're not mentally okay it's waaaay harder. I'm not justifying anyone's actions bc I agree that it's absolutely awful and a terrible terrible tragedy. I'm just saying things are always cut and clear.

Post Partum Depression and Post Partum Psychosis are some of the main causes. They are serious mental health issues, and the women who suffer from these truly need our help.

You also have women, and men, who just have no empathy or are sociopaths/psychopaths and have something wrong with them.

Some times, it's quite literally an accident.

I lost my son shortly after he was born. I literally went crazy. I tried to dig him out of the ground at his gravesite because I thought he'd get cold. If my husband wasn't there to stop me, I know 100% I would have taken him out and slept with his body in my bed.

I tell this story because hormone imbalances and depression can completely take over a person and both their conscious and subconscious. I would have NEVER even had the thought cross my mind before, and there I was wailing and clawing into the grass.

It doesn't make sense to many people because they're lucky enough to never go through a depression so deep that they lose themselves. So even if the illness doesn't make sense to you, it's so important to be aware and supportive and to sympathize with these people because the vast majority truly don't know what they're thinking or why they're thinking it.

I want to slam my head against the wall sometimes dealing with my children and i have a fairly "normal" mentality. So it makes sense people with imbalances can act out so drastically.

I think often in these cases there is an underlying mental illness or post partum depression that is just way out of hand. PPD makes it hard to form an attachment. I'm not trying to make excuses for these people, but just not demonize them completely. There are probably some people who are straight up psychopaths and have no remorse.

Some are just narcissistic sociopaths that do it because the hate for their ex partner is greater than the love for their child.

My mother had PPD and was hospitalized because of it. I didn't find out until years later that my grandma (her mother) stopped her from killing me. It was a shocking thing to find out but she was literally out of her mind and was in a mental hospital for almost a year.
