Thoughts on diamonds?

Question

This article basically explains how diamonds really have no intrinsic value, aren't actually rare, and the only reason they've come to be such a status symbol is because in the 1930s De Beers made people think they should be. I found it very interesting, was wondering what everyone else's thoughts were?

For me, & I kinda hate to admit this because I know most of my "Glow fam" is not at all this shallow, I like diamonds & my rings were kind of a big deal to me.😔 But it's honestly more about the symbolism to me because "diamonds are forever" & the longer he saved up to buy me the perfect ring, the longer he took to really think about the commitment. Does that make me a douchey asshole? Lol🤔😕

I've never really understood the fixation we have on diamonds. They've always seemed like a rather arbitrary status symbol to me. Certainly not worth all the bloodshed surrounding their mining and trade. Then again they are shiny which is nice.

I don't value my diamond based on how rare it is, I love it because it's shiny and sparkly and pretty...oh, and because it came from my OH who very thoughtfully picked it out for me

If it's shiny and pretty then I like it. Diamonds are so beautiful and I don't think their popularity will ever die down. I love sapphires too😍

I'm not a diamond person, but yo it's important to someone so they'll pay to get them. Personally I'll be going with a simple gold band, a carved gold band, or an ivory band made from my great grandmother's grand piano. 
I am a gold lover though so I'll go for that overall.

👆🏻that's the ring I wear around now. The blue topaz is my birthstone and I'm finding that I like the bright blue a lot with golds. This kind of ring is sleek enough and the stone isn't big enough to get in the way of everything.

Frankly I prefer colored quarts or other raw crystals then cut clear rocks. Boring 😪
