What to call my ex (sorry if this sounds silly😋)

So me and my ex boyfriend are trying work things out and get back together eventually when we're both ready but I honestly don't feel I should really call him an ex because me and him act like we're together in public but we're not 100% together would we be "complicated" or "friends with benefits" or "a couple working on their issues" sorry if that sound stupid but I just feel like my ex isn't really an ex to me if we're acting like couple lol 😜
