Nipple shield - share your experience

My LO had a hard time latching right after his circumcision....was just to upset to latch and a lactation consultant had my use a nipple shield.  Now he won't take my nipple at all...they are not flat or inverted.  We are only 4 days old so my milk is just barely coming in.  Will I be able to wean him off the shield once it does?  Anyone have a story to share? The shields are so flimsy, barely stay on and are hard to keep up with... Makes breastfeeding on the go seem like it will be practically impossible!
