Overactive letdown/fast flow?

I have overactive letdown (I think) and then a very fast flow. So my baby chokes when feeding and pulls off and eventually stops early. And then, my breast will empty within only 5minutes (I've tested this theory with pumping and I'm dry after 5-6minutes with only ~2oz output total).

I'm on the verge of giving up EBF and going to exclusive pumping bc feedings are horrible- he's choking on milk and then empties the breast, which clearly isn't enough food for him as I am consistently  feeding him every 45min/1 hour. I'm exhausted. this isn't cluster feeding because it happens all day, everyday.  My son is 4 weeks.

Any advice?

Lay back when you feed and let gravity help. The milk will come out slower if you are leaning back.

Hang in there. It might take a few weeks or even a month for baby to get the hang of dealing with it. In the meantime try letting your letdown spray into a towel and then relatching.

Try a nipple shield until baby is a little older and can handle the fast let down. It's been a livesaver for me and my baby

I have a fast let down and fast flow. Plus I empty quick too. My daughter is now 7m and  exclusively breasfed. Your baby will learn to adjust the let down. Don't switch yet. You can also try to manual produce a let down for a few seconds before latching into a breast pad so the flow slows. Around six weeks your supply will regulate and it will get easier. Breastfeeding has a huge learning curve!
