How much do you know about the hymen?

Hannah • Fur mamma. Heathen.

1) The hymen is in no way like a seal. It is a membrane in the vagina that is donut shaped. Think about it, how would period blood come out if it was a seal? The hymen doesn't tear or break. It only stretches.

2) The hymen is not what bleeds if a woman were to bleed a bit after her first time having intercourse. The hymen is a very thin membrane with very little blood, however bleeding is likely to occur the first time from tissue along the vaginal wall because it is delicate (if it's never been pounded before) and it is rich in blood.

3) First time pain is not from the hymen. It is most likely from being poorly lubricated and not knowing exactly how to ...slide

What's your age and how many of these did you know? As women, there are so many taboos and stigma around our bodies and unfortunately the social construct of "losing our virginity." Why don't they address these issues in sex ed? Why are so many myths about the female body still believed today?
