6 week itch
New Dad's:
Anyone having a hard time with the 6 week postpartum lack of intimacy ? I don't mean sex. I'm talking about other ways to have some intimacy and enjoy each other physically? I'm 4 weeks in and other than last night cuddling and holding, there's been nothing. I guess it's very common for some women to not even want to be touched in any way, and no way in hell she wants to be the one doing the touching. I've brought it up twice very nicely and was still told I was being selfish and how dare I even think about it. Not in those exact words but close enough. I have nothing but respect for my wife, and I praise her for not only carrying our child for 9 months, and all the physical pain from giving birth, plus the emotional roller coaster postpartum craziness, and the storm of hormones. I was and am very easily waiting the 6 to 8 week period of no sex, and the 22 to 23 hour a day job of being parents, dirty diapers, changing clothes, warming bottles, plus the long list of normal house work, dishes, laundry, cleaning, cooking, errands to target, grocery store and doctors. Oh and still working and paying bills. But I was not really prepared for the extreme lack of any kind of physical affection and the total loss of actual intimacy. I'm not complaining, I love her and our new child more than I could have ever imagined or dreamed of, and I'm going through this smiling and content. I'm not really happy about it and not satisfied, but the amazing new addition to our little family and seeing how happy my wife is, makes it all worth it. When I catch myself feeling like I'm not needed or wanted, I stop and think how awesome life is. It's a very small sacrifice to make. I just hope it comes back around. It'll never be the same, but I think it'll be better. More love, more compassion.
