Babies behind bars: Should moms do time with their newborns?

At the Ohio Reformatory for Women, they have a program for pregnant inmates. It is for short term, non violent offenders and these women are completely separated from the rest of the prison. They are allowed to keep their baby with them if they qualify and their application is accepted. They have teachers, doctors, and psychiatrists working with them to learn how to be a new mom. I think it's a wonderful program.

Depends on the severity and the amount of time in my opinion. If you're serving 25+ for murder, nah say good bye. But if you're like. Idk. Serving 6-12 months (or less) for a non violent crime, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to spend time with your infant.

This post could really benefit from some background information about these kinds of programs and how they work. "Babies behind bars" sounds bad and can evoke images of babies just chilling in cells and around prisons willy nilly. From what I understand the goal of these programs is to allow women who will be getting out of jail to get in on that crucial bonding time with their babies within a controlled environment.

Absolutely not. Baby is not to blame for whatever mum did. They should be taken away.

I voted yes, because the program is for mother's getting out soon, and for non violent offenders. And they're separated from others in a very controlled environment.

If you do a crime and youre behind bars for a reason, your child should be no where near you. Should have thought about your child before getting locked up.
