Dating a man with depression? Would it work out ?

I know i can't do much but to tell him i'm here for him. & try my hardest to put a smile on his face. I was told it could cause you depression. He lives in NC i live in TX im moving down there. I wanna be there for him, and care for him. Is there any advice y'all could give me to help ? Thank you.

My man used to be pretty depressed when I first started talking to him and he also has bad anxiety but I always knew there was something in him I couldn't be away from. I started to notice that when I would come around he would light up in a way he didn't with anyone else. After 7 months of dating I can confidently say his depression is 100% gone, not saying he doesn't get upset now and then but the depression is gone, and his anxiety has reduced tremendously to the point where he no longer needs to take anxiety pills. If you're the one his depression won't cause and impact on your relationship

Here is the thing about depression, it causes the individual to be incapable of looking outside of themselves. He needs to focus on getting better, and if he is focused on you, he won't and can't get better. The depression will come up over and over when you are not expecting it. He won't be able to love you the way you love him until he gets help. That's a lot of pressure on you to help him get better.

Also, you cannot help him get better. You can be supportive, but you will not be the reason he gets better. He has to get professional help and find the strength within himself.

I have Bipolar manic depression and I never could find anyone that could put up with that until I met my now bf. I told him right away about it and he sees how my depression gets and he still sticks by me. He knows that there isn't anything he can do to change that or fix me but just knowing I have him to support me and lean on is actually a big help.

It is hard to say. Only you can really know what is best for you. Just know you can't fix everyone... Also don't loose yourself and who you are in caring for him. I tried to help my ex. I didn't realize how far down I was until I left him. I also lost myself in attempting to help a man that didn't want my help. His issues were more than depression, but I did get severely depressed from it.

I have bi-polar and I'm nearly 15weeks pregnant.

I used to me a absolute swine and off the rails with my ex cause he treated me like absolute shite!

Since being with my new Boyf last year I've sorted myself out and been better than ever, he's helped me leaps and bounds and understands my mood swings (before pregnancy) and my little downs. 
Just depends on the person whether they want to be helped and whether the person helping them has patience and understanding of it all.

I think it can be extremely emotionally draining on your part, you're going to have to always be aware and be okay with that the way he may be towards you (distant,unhappy, not wanting sex ect) is because of his depression and not a reflection on how he feels about you. Good luck and well done :)

I had depression and it only got worse after having my kids.  My partner was by my side the whole way through and that's all I needed. Yes I flipped out at him and her just took it. He's my angel. My everything and I can never repay him for helping my through my darkest days.
