I need honest opinions as to if this is worth pursuing
Okay so I've been told by family and friends that I should look into suing our local hospital. I'll explain my story below. Please no harsh comments, I understand that shit happens and we shouldn't be quick to sue. This is more of a "kill my curiosity" post.
I had just given birth on at hospital A.I had a vaginal delivery with some complications (high blood pressure, baby pooped in utero, 3 failed epidurals). I was discharged from that hospital despite high blood pressure during labor and after. Anyways, 5 days later as I awoke to feed my baby noticed that I had one leg wayyyyy more swollen than the other. I called the hospital where I gave birth and they said it was worth going into any ER for, so I opted to go into my local hospital (we will call it hospital B) instead of the hospital I delivered at because it is 30 minutes away from my home. I was exclusively breastfeeding and I didn't want to bring my newborn into the ER with me, and hospital B is a two minute drive from home. I pumped as much milk as I could, left my baby with my mom, and headed to hospital B with my husband. It was packed, it seemed like there was a flu outbreak. They took my blood pressure and it was something like 180/94. I explained my symptoms, I had also been feeling off like I was going to faint. The nurse practitioner saw me almost immediately and had some blood work ordered, checked my eyes and told me my bp wasn't that bad as the bottom number wasn't 100. It seemed odd to me but they're the professionals, right? I was sent to the waiting room. 3 hours later I grew engorged and decided to go home and feed my baby real fast, who had to be fed formula while I was gone due to not pumping enough. I went home, fed, pumped a little and returned to the hospital. I was called right after sitting down. I waited an additional 3 hours in the room. A pregnant nurse saw me and told me that the swelling was normal and was due to IV fluids. She encouraged me to go home, but I said I wanted to see a physician. 2 hours go by and the doctor finally comes in. At that point my bp is 190/90 I remember vividly. He ordered an ultrasound for blood clots. While I was waiting for my results I asked to use the bathroom and a nurse told me to go home and stop faking it. I told her I wouldn't be away from my newborn if I felt fine... Anyways It came back negative, and another hour later the doc came in and explained that it seems like I was high risk for postpartum preeclampsia but since my urine was clean he was sending me home. He offered me pain medicine, which I declined due to breastfeeding. My bp before discharge was 200/90. He told me to follow up with my OBGYN ASAP (but it was a Friday night, meaning I had to wait two days before being seen). I called Monday morning and they couldn't see me until Tuesday. Lo and behold I was full blown preeclamptic. I spent three days in hospital A being treated. I have liver damage and eye damage resulting in the preeclampsia. Various nurses from hospital A told me to consult lawyers because no one should be discharged with blood pressure that high.
It's been 4 months and I am just now catching my breath lol. Opinions??
