Forward facing car seat

What age was your LO when you switched the car seat to forward facing ? My LO is almost a year, we hardly ride in the car but when we do she cries cause she can't see what's going on. I put her car seat forward facing and in the middle of my Jeep. We have yet to drive anywhere yet, but not sure if it'll resolve the issue. I live in a very small town and am thinking when we travel out of town I'll switch to read facing.. I just hate seeing her cry the entire trips when we travel.
