Gestational Diabetes?

Question

Today I got my glucose test results and they indicate gestational diabetes. How do you deal with it? What chances did you make to your life to improve this stage? And what food should I avoid, besides sweets? I'm 16 weeks.

Low carb foods and no sugar. Meats will be your best friend. Snacks like cheese, nuts, pepperoni are good. LOTS of chicken! Good luck! It sucks but it's manageable. If you do eat something naughty go for a 20 min walk, that helps ALOT. When I get cravings I eat what one and and then go for a walk. The other day I REALLY wanted some chicken teriyaki and white rice rice (rice is terriable for a dibetic) it spiked my bs to 145 and I walked for 20 min then tested again and I was down to 119 just like that 👍 good luck!!

You take your sugar when you wake up and 1-2 hours after each meal. Avoid foods high in carbs & sugar (read the Total Carbohydrates label, that is the total % of carbs and sugars!) go for a little walk after meals. Watch your portions, don't over eat. Start just drinking water or sugar free drinks obviously. You can pretty much eat what you want just watch portions like I said

I too have gestational diabetes. Smaller frequent meals. Carbohydrates only at main meals, lots of vegetables. I had a information session at the hospital which outlines the best options for keeping the sugar levels low.

I also found going for a walk after dinner helped me a lot with my morning sugar levels.

Good luck, one good thing for me was that because of the diet change I was able to minimise the weight gain in this pregnancy.
