Is it acceptable to tell my boss by email that I'm pregnant

So I work in home health and see my boss maybe once every 3 or 4 months. ..basically work on my own and communicate with coworkers and office staff via email. I will be going to the office tomorrow morning and if the boss is there I plan to tell her but if not, the only way I'd see her again is if I schedule a meeting. Want to tell her this week so I can announce on fb next week so just wondering if it is okay to tell her via email...
