Petitioning for custody.

So my aunt wants to get custody of my nephews who's both mother and father just recently went to prison. But so does my nephews uncle(nephews moms brother). I feel they are both fit to take the children. My aunt who's married has a lot of money, owns a business and has two adopted children of her own. The uncle owns his own business, and his girlfriend stays at home to watch them all day, and are great people. Does the judge look at those things or who is closer related? I feel my aunt would be a better fit but just wondering how a judge decides?
