Brown discharge before period?

Does anyone count this as the first day of their period or do you wait until red blood comes out? I noticed it today but don't know whether to log it as the first day of AF or not.

The fist day or two of my period us usually heavy.. This is so light it just seems like discharge! From the posts I've read, this is normal a day or two before your period, especially when on hormonal birth control pills.. Im not counting these days as my period... If anything, I'm counting it as spotting and leaving a note that it's very light.

I used to count it, but now I count my first day as the day that my flow fully begins as long as it's before 5pm, I don't remember where I read that but I read an article saying it.

It's old blood, but still the lining of your uterus shedding. So, it's a part of your period.
