**trigger warning** Should people who torture animals have children?

A guy I go to college with (NOT my friend) confessed to me that when he was a boy, he used to hurt animals. Like when he would find baby mice in his barn, he would bang them against a glass window by their tail until they passed out. He also used to put the family dog in an ice bath then put it outside in the cold weather for a few mins. I was so angry when I heard this. He said he hasn't done it since he was a kid. But the question is, should people who treat animals this way be allowed to have children? I've heard animal abusers grow up to abuse people. Or do you think this was just a phase kids go through as children?

This should not be some phase that kids go through as a child... I really hope that isn't something that's supposed to be normal. If they think it's a toy, then I would be indifferent about it (but more on the bad side) , but it seemed like your friend KNEW what he was doing. I heard as well though that people who abuse animals tend to abuse others as well when they grow, and that people who tend to abuse and hurt animals at a young age usually grow up to be a psychopath or a murder or something as well... 
I definitely don't think they should have kids, and I would also want to keep myself and my kids away from them 😕

What? We're going to decide this guy isn't allowed to have children based on his poor choices as a child himself? That makes no sense.
Sure, these were horrible acts. He should not have tortured those animals. But he was a CHILD! And he said he hasn't done anything like that since then. 
I agree that people who torture animals should not have children- if those people are adults and still making those choices. But we all do stupid shit as kids, this guy should be allowed to do what he wants.

This is just a really superficial way of looking at child behavior and mental health. If a kid is doing something like harm animals it's likely because they have been abused in some way. Have they gotten help? Have they been removed from they abusive situation? Have they received counseling? Have they commuted violent crimes as an adolescent or adult? Have they been abusive to others? There are just so many different long term outcomes that you can't take away someone's ability to have a family based on this bad childhood act.

Have no idea as to how you would control that but many people don't have emotional attatchments with pets. They see them as animals with no feelings. They don't differentiate between an animal like a cow that goes to slaughter. There is no strong correlation between animal abuse and child abuse.

I just have peace of mind knowing that MOST women would not be attracted to a guy like that and therefore it limits the chances of them procreating and rearing children.

My husband knows someone who (when he was a kid) would throw cats over his fence to the neighbors pit bulls, and they would of course attack the cats until death. 
He is now an adult with 2 kids that he's not allowed to see. He ran from the cops for 2 years and now he's in prison. So my answer is no.
