Feminism: the belief that everyone should have equal opportunities regardless of gender.

This sounds like a word you want attached to your name, right? So why is it that many women who are feminist by this definition are afraid of saying it? (Looking at you, SJP.)

Feminism has a shady past, starting with the fact feminism was really white feminism, racist, and not friendly to all genders and sexualities. Cue womanism, intersectional feminism, and humanism... A great necessity. Not to mention the fact that any group of people are going to have its extremists - female supremacists. Ick. So many people still shy from the term, even though it's not those things any longer.

I'm not a feminist, but if someone is part of the movement then that's okay and I have no problem with it, just don't say I HAVE to be one just bc of my gender/sex

let people label themselves how they want. you can be for equality and not want a title. you can be a humanist, equalist, feminist, meninist, I DON'T CARE. it's about the idea NOT the title. some people don't want to be associated with the movement and that's totally okay.

What really gets on my nerves is women hitting men, for absolutely no reason. Like if a man gives you a compliment, say thank you, and I'm not saying the asshole comment like "nice ass" or "you look sexy today"
I'm talking genuine compliments, and then some are so quick to jump to conclusions.
Someone I know told a girl she was adorable and she slapped him across the face.
In college my SO was talking to a new girl, she wanted a quiet place to study, he told her where the library was and she had a few bags and there were a lot of stairs to climb, so he asked her if she needed any help and she yelled at him for being inappropriate.

Feminism is complete bullshit. There are a few feminists who I believe have actually had a good impact on our world, the women who worked for our right to vote, Malala, and countless others. But the women in the "free the nipple" and "ban bossy" campaigns are complete idiots and need to stop. It's not that I don't stand for raising strong women and gender equality, I'm 100% behind that (I have a Rosie the Riveter poster in my room), but I do believe that some women just go over the top. WOMEN IN FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES ARE NOT OPRESSED. Real "feminists" would work harder toward helping the women in Pakistan who can't show any of their face or body and face genital mutilation. That's oppression.

To me feminism means a woman who wants equal rights and wants to work and get paid equally. Because being a stay at home mom is a pain in the ass it's hard work.
