*Religious* Do you ever feel like people pick and choose sins??

I feel like people pick and choose sins.

The bible days we aren't supposed to eat pork, cut hair, eat shellfish, curse, get piercings or tattoos, wear clothes of different materials. I know most of us do all of that. But at least they're not as bad as killing someone.

Someone got really technical about it and said that those don't apply to Christians because Christianity didn't exist yet. And that our rules are the 10 commanments. Something like that.

How do you feel about it??

Old Testament rules and New Testament rules are totally different. You should refer to scripture.

Yes they do but people often forget that we are no longer under the law (according to christianity). The rules about not eating shellfish, pork, isolation during periods, mixed fabrics, etc don't apply anymore. Basically, all those rules and punishments from Leviticus don't apply because Jesus died, etc etc.

People do not live their lives exactly to the bible of course they pick and choose as it suits them because if they followed it word for word they would be sodomizing people along with other horrific things.

Genesis 22, in which Abraham is made to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice; this endorsement of female subservience in Ephesians 5:22, "Wives, submit to you husbands as to the Lord"; and similar advice for slaves in 1 Peter 2:18: "Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel."

The difference between me and God is the fact that if I had the power to stop someone from being raped, abused and mistreated I would stop it.

Does it explicitly say those things? No. The bible can only be interpreted and it just depends on how you interpret what it says

All animals were made clean for us to eat and most of Old Testament law was deemed an unnecessary by Paul. Most of the Old Testament laws were made up by men over the years anyway, and the Ten Commandments are what was given to Noah by God, and so are what modern Christians still go by.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong (which is likely, I don't know much about the bible to be honest. I do my best but all fall short and so on) Didn't Jesus cleanse the pigs and make it okay for us to eat them in the New Testament? I thought in the Old Testament the demon was cast into the hog pen and it made pork unholy but in the New Testament Jesus cleansed them or something (Like I said I'm clueless. Not even sure where I heard this) But a sin is a sin is a sin. Period. Whether it's adultery, lying, murder, stealing, taking the Lord's name in vain- all are the same in the eyes of the Lord. My dad is very old fashioned(and kind of a douche tbh, he's only around when he wants to be but that's besides the point) any way- I got pregnant and had a baby at 17 (I got married a month later- besides the point as well). My little sister jokingly told my dad she was gay because he was bothering her about boys. He flipped. He said he'd "beat her ass" etc etc. I said "at least you won't have to worry about her getting pregnant and having a baby before she's married" and he says "Well the bible says being gay is wrong" to which I replied "The bible also says you are not to have sex before marriage" and he didn't have anything to say to that. You don't get to pick and choose the parts your follow or believe. You take it all or none of it.
