Can you eat n drink during contraction/labor in your hospital?

Its forbidden in my hospital to drink n eat during labor, so they only wet your lips. I drink a lot and dont know how will i be able to be without water for 4 or more hours. Why you thing they forbid?

I was eating and the nurse tried taking my food because it could make me vomit later. We almost had a brawl, I won, I ate, I didnt throw up. Lol

Ice chips is all they can give you if that. Sucks can't eat till after the baby even then you won't be thinking about food or water lol

All hospitals in the USshould allow eating and drinking now but they don't. But they should, because the ACOG recommendations say that normal women in normal labor should be allowed to eat and drink if they want because it's good for them and not eating/drinking doesn't actually make emergency c sections safer because people would have to not eat or drink before they know they're in labor, and also anesthesiologists know how to deal with aspiration better now. Of course, ACOG also recommends that laboring women walk around and don't get routine IVs.

I think the reason they won't let you is just in case they have to take you to the OR for a C-Section if something arises.

My hospital allowed light snacks and drinks. But I arrived at 9.5 cm, so needless to say I wasn't interested in eating at that point. ☺️

At my hospital they're very laid back & allow drinking & eating & pretty much anythjng you want. Baths, etc.

Nope, in case of emergency c section. I'm having a home birth so I'll be able to eat/drink freely.

I had ice chips and Popsicles for 6 days straight 😒😒 it's not allowed incase of an emergency c-section.
