Birth Control

I'm a tad bit uncertain about getting on the pill. Women in my family have always had weird, even detrimental, reactions to various kinds of birth control. I plan on going to my lady doctor sometime next month, as long as work permits, but I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas or helpful suggestions on the best and least scary kinda of BC that I could get on. My boyfriend and I are to the stage where we aren't exactly ready for kids and I don't want to scare our mothers with an unplanned grandbaby! Thank you all!
