First illness.Be prepared, it will hit you too.
I feel like an unfit parent and need CPS called on me. I had a sinus/respiratory infection this past week and gave it to my lo. She is barely 5mo and my heart is breaking with so much guilt. Mom's, make sure you have everything you need to treat different illnesses before you actually need them and you will be alright. Had to run out in the middle of the night for a warm mist vaporizer with Vicks menthol to put in it and try to find appropriate meds for her. Let me tell you, there isn't much available for a 5month old to take besides Tylenol, aspirin, and home remedy style cough syrup. I ended up buying an organic type chest rub to open up her nasal passages and that was about the best I could do besides Tylenol. Make sure you have saline mist nose spray, vaporizer, tylenol, nose Frieda's (so much better than bulb style snot sucker and even the battery powered as I have them all and nose frieda works the best), chest rub formulated for infants, and even some coconut oil or Vaseline for their little lips as they will get chapped when they have to mouth breathe because their nose stays so clogged. On top of this episode she coughed so hard she vomited the entire contents of her stomach up which was a 6oz bottle just minutes prior and then aspirated on her vomit. I thought I was going to have to do CPR which I thankfully learned for infants while training for surgical tech certification. She had vomit coming out of her nose and everything and kept trying to breathe....scariest thing I have ever felt not knowing if she was getting air. Cold and flu season is right around the corner so scrub those hands, keep those strangers away from your lo's, and for heavens sake keep those babies out of heavily populated areas during peak times of cold and flu. You will wish you had once you see how bad your lo is feeling and suffering.
