In one of the pregnancy groups, a lady asked if we were able to keep a baby born at 12-15 weeks alive, should we? I said "Just because you can keep something alive doesn't mean you should". What do you think? I feel like that child would suffer. It Can't breathe or eat on it's own. Barely even looks like a baby at that point. I wouldn't be able to get behind that decision. It's hard to let a baby die but sometimes it's for the best.

A feotus isn't viable outside the womb before 24 weeks I think it is.

Trying to keeo it alive outside the womb before that is just cruel, but mostly not even possible.

Most organs haven't developed properly yet, especially the brain and lungs. A lot of the digestive tract hasn't developed either.

No. What kind of life is that? To be extremely under developed and that small it would just be cruel.

I know someone who had to deliver right at 25 weeks. They wanted her to deliver at 24, but it was too risky for the baby so they waited. She was still so underdeveloped and it was touch and go for a long time. She is healthy now (to my knowledge) but who knows the amount of pain they have to endure at that age.

What they were trying to find out was what children might have nightmares about. I never said nightmares cause has anywhere.

And I was  also referring to what the original post said-definitely not all prermies. If premies were hypothetically viable at only 12-15 weeks ect.

I feel like you took my entire response out of context and or misread it. 🤔

I've worked with many adults who were born premies and suffered many medical complications because of it. None were able to live without 24/7 care. That possibility should be considered when looking at quality of life.

I can't imagine all the pain they must be in. Even if they don't have the memory retention/ability to properly process it-the body remembers pain. There's some studies I've read that hypothesize that night terrors/nightmares at a young age are the results of colic.

The youngest infant to survive and grow outside the womb was born at 22 weeks I think. That comes with a lot of risks. I don't think they should try to keep the fetus alive at that point. It wouldn't be able to develop properly at all
