heartbeat stopped and then started again

I have had many ultrasounds for this pregnancy. I have seen the baby's heartbeat at 6 and at 7 weeks and also heard it at 7 weeks. At 8 weeks there was no heartbeat and I was told I am having a miscarriage. They offered me an immediate D&C but I am getting a confirmation scan in a few days before doing anything.  Did anyone else have this experience? Did anyone find a heartbeat after it seemed to have stopped? Did you just have the fetus removed right away or wait?  The heart was so strong 6 days before, I thought they must be wrong, but Dr. said they are 100% sure. I'm sure they are right but just need that confirmation scan.
