How come jobs dont care about pregnant women?

It seems as if most jobs could care less about your pregnancy. I work in housekeeping at a hospital while in school and they still expect me to lift heavy items, bend, reach. .... everything!! What's your occupation?  And have they been accommodating your pregnancy?

This is so true! I worked at Forever 21 in my first few months and the job required me to be on my feet all day, even when working double shifts and over night. And my manager only let me take a 30 minute break. There was a point where I was at the register and almost fainted numerous times. Customers even commented on how tired and dehydrated I worked and my manager was right next to me. When I asked him if I could leave to go to the ER he said "you might as well not come back" so I didn't.

Mine was incredibly accommodating.  I'm a claims manager for a large corporation. I was high risk and had doctors appointments twice a week for the last trimester, and they always asked what I needed to feel more comfortable. And my boss suggested I work from home twice a week for the last 5 weeks. That was the best thing they could have done for me.  They even threw me a baby shower on company time, where my boss and coworker each got me a bottle of wine! I feel blessed to work for and with some great people.

I've also been on the other side of the spectrum,  where you're just a warm body to do work...it really sinks!I'm sorry you have to deal with that side!

I work on computers. My work is so understanding. I get help lifting things and get amazing maternity leave ALL PAID

I'm a case manager, they haven't really changed anything since I have a desk job. I have to watch what clients I take, I won't take violent clients. I have been treated differently but only by the executive director of my job since I'm an unwed pregnant woman and I work for a Catholic diocese. Such bullshit. I'm still trying to figure out if I'll go back after I have the baby.

Omg I was in housekeeping while I was pregnant and they were the same way about heavy lifting and everything. It ended up sending me into preterm labor and I was out in bedrest the last month and a half of pregnancy. Be careful and only do what you feel comfortable doing. I way outdid myself and hurt myself and almost hurt my baby. It's not worth it. If need be get your dr to write you some restrictions of what you can and can't do. You boss will have to abide by them. 
I ended up not returning after j had my son and found a desk job

I don't know where you live but in the United States, we don't have paid family leave as a whole. Some companies give it, but not all. It sucks. They treat pregnancy like it's just a cold and you should be able to go back to work as soon as possible. What if you have complications? What if your baby has complications? What if you have post partum depression? What if you just want to bond with your baby? It's really not fair. I agree with you. and I'm glad my mom quit her job so she wasn't faced with the pressure to go back really soon when I was born.
