TOO FAT for fertility treatments?

Has anyone here been told that they're too fat for fertility treatments? Our fertility doctor told me she wouldn't even consider treatments for me until I lost a lot of weight.

Yes, it's normal for doctors to refuse fertility treatment until your bmi is 30 or lower. With a bmi above that, you're putting yourself and your furture child at risk for SO MANY health problems. And many fertility treatments don't work if you're so overweight anyways.

I think it's possibly because extra weight can cause complications in pregnancy and even make it hard to become pregnant. I'm sorry they won't help you tho

Yup. Definitely pissed off about it too. Because I don't want iui or ivf, just freaking Clomid to help me ovulate, I've been tested for everything else with no issues, but so far nothing. They can't make money off me cause I don't need or want the expensive treatments they won't help. It's wrong.

The thing is if you're very overweight, treatments like Clomid are much less likely to work. Your doc shouldn't put it as a refusal to help, but it's a fact that the first line of treatment for the majority of women with the leading cause of infertility, PCOS, is to lose significant weight.

Losing up to 10% of your weight, if overweight, can not only make medications become effective, but can actually fix infertility on its own for some women. If you truly want to get pregnant, why wouldn't you consider every treatment that works?

Two years into our now 5 year fertility journey we seeked NHS help (U.K.) the stupid woman turnt around and told me that I was to fat and young (21) to be even trying and that she was removing me from the hospitals help until I was at least 25. I was overweight and she told me to lose half my body weight before I ask to come back in a few years.

My bmi was 31.4. Well I lost around 50 kg and my bmi was 18.9. On year three we got referred to a different hospital (we moved).

Well that man turnt Round and told me to lose 5 to 10 percent of my body weight as it helps PCOS sufferers keeping in mind I was now on the borderline of being underweight.

We've ended up paying for fertility now. My specialist was so angry that they convinced me to lose as much weight as I did and made me put on 10 kg which was a bummer after all my hard work. We tried all the small things like clomid, metformin and we froze some eggs and checked so other out. We have spent £40,000 but our journey is so much more enjoyable compared to the NHS. We are now doing our 2nd iui/ or IVF round depending on how well the medication stimulates my ovaries.
