Baby J!

Ashley
Baby J made her arrival Oct. 29th at 5:41pm. I went in to my prenatal appointment on the 24th, and my blood pressure was really high. 150/100. They checked it 3more times, and it was still high. They told me to go home, and bed rest since there wasn't any protein in my urine. I was scheduled a follow up with the nurse practitioner on Wednesday, 10/26 to have my blood pressure checked again. Well, it was still high 145/90. My normal is 120/80. She had me do a 24 hour urine test. I took it back in the next day. I got a phone call on 10/28 at 3:30pm telling me I needed to come in to be induced because I have pre-eclampsia. We got our things together, and got checked in at the hospital at about 5:30pm. They started cytotic (or however you spell that), and gave it to me orally every 4 hours as well as checking my blood pressure every couple of hours. We kept getting told to get some rest...hard to rest when your room is right by the helicopter pad, and baby J's heart monitor kept dipping off on. They finally did the cytotic internally at like 6am, and that was so painful. I stayed at a 2 till then. They started pitocin at 9am, and the doctor broke my water. I was in a lot of pain by about 11am. I asked for the epidural around 1130. They came in and placed it. I was still feeling the contractions, but nothing from like my lower pelvis down. The nurse kept saying I should only be feeling slight pressure. I was like I'm still feeling the contractions, but they didn't seem to be worried with it. They brought in what they call the peanut ball, and that helped me dilate more. The doctor came in at 5pm, and checked me, and wanted me to do some practice pushes. I about delivered her on the bed before they got the stir ups ready. She made her arrival at 5:41pm 7lb 11oz, 21 1/2inches long. I absolutely loved both my of my labor and delivery nurses, and the doctor on call who delivered her was amazing! I plan on switching to her as my obgyn! We were moved to the recovery room around 8-9pm. No one helped us with anything on that floor. We are first time parents, and nothing. I planned to breastfeed so the lactate consultant was in and out of the room. I absolutely hated that woman. She wouldn't talk to us, and just manhandled my baby trying to get her to latch. Well, by probably 5pm 10/30 we had to ask that woman for formula because I knew baby wasn't getting enough since she wasn't latching efficiently. She got all mad, and explained how breast is best..blah blah blah. I understand that, but she needs to eat. They actually did discharge us at 8pm on 10/30. We got her to eat a little bit, and then went home. She did end up having a high jaundice level, but has went down considerably. I am currently pumping, and feeding. I might supplement formula once a day. I did get her to latch on this morning, but with the jaundice I can't tell how much she's getting so I've just been pumping as least till that clears out, and we'll try again. She is on a strict 2-3 hour feeding schedule. My husband got to do the first poopy diaper change too.
