An unexpected horror ending

Nandita

After deciding a date I'd like to be induced on if I went past my due date, I went to the bathroom only to discover my water broke . After 12 hours of labor I was only 3 cm dilated. I was given pitocin and an epidural and in 5 quick hours I dilated to 10 cm. After an hour of pushing my beautiful baby boy was here. I found the entire experience pleasurable and exhilarating.

My husband and me were over the moon, taking photos and cooing over our boy. The doctor on call came to check my bleeding a few times. I knew I was bleeding, but thought that was normal and expected. I was then told that I was hemorrhaging badly and they would do all that they could to stop the bleeding. I was given no pain meds as everything had to happen so quickly. The doctor thrust her entire hand up until her elbow and upper arm into my vagina to pull out clots and bits of placenta they suspected might still remain in my uterus that was preventing my uterus to shrink back. She thrusted her hand in SIX TIMES to make sure she got all the bits and pieces out and this was EXCRUCIATING PAINFUL. It was so painful that it made pushing a 7.5 pound baby out my vagina seem trivial. All this, while the nurses were continuously massaging my fundus (top of uterus) which again adds to the pain. Even after trying to 'hand clean' my uterus 6 times, the bleeding did not stop. The doc then suspected that the bleeding might be from the stitches on my vagina. My vagina was re-stitched. This entire process made my rectum tear and I was stitched there too. I was hoarse from screaming and I think I have a pretty good pain tolerance level. My husband was freaking out seeing all the blood and hearing my screams. He was told that if the treatment given did not work, they had to remove my uterus in the extreme case. I was almost delirious from the pain, my BP dropped and I got a fever. But finally by God's grace the bleeding stopped and I was in the clear.

My only regret is that I couldn't breastfeed my son after birth and the first night was a blur. But I'm happy there was no permanent damage and now I'm completely fit and healthy.
