a glass of wine during pregnancy?

I know some people are completely against to alcohol consumption during pregnancy but i would like to hear your opinion about having a glass of wine every few weeks during pregnancy. In some European countries doctors allow a glass or two every week and people are ending up having normal kids. Do you ever drink during pregnancy? 
What do you all think about it?

This has been really extensively studied, and all data says there's no actual scientific reason not to. Low alcohol consumption during pregnancy has not been shown to cause any negative effects, either in pregnancy outcomes or in the health/behavior/IQ of children studied for many years following birth. However, we still get the strict "no drinking ever" recommendation from our medical establishment, which is mostly tradition and over-cautiousness. I really recommend you pick up a copy of the book "Expecting Better" by Emily Oster - she's a statistician who looked into the actual scientific data behind many "standard" pregnancy recommendations, such as the total alcohol prohibition we hear in the U.S. Ultimately it's up to you to decide your own risk tolerance, but the science says there is no elevated risk from occasional light alcohol consumption.

I don't drink, but I didn't drink pre pregnancy, either. I honestly think American culture is RIDICULOUS with the list of things pregnant women can't eat/drink/do. 
1-2 glasses of wine a week will not harm your baby or give your child FAS. 
Eating sushi, deli meat, soft cheeses, etc won't either, considering if you never got sick eating them before....it's the same risk of getting sick eating them now. So low it's ridiculous.

People get all up in arms about a glass of wine, meanwhile sitting there eating the fast food crap they're craving, followed by a tub of ice cream and popping Tylenol for every headache. A glass of red wine at least has some great health benefits and there have been no studies to show that an occasional glass of wine will harm your child.

The way I understand it is that it isn't about being sensitive to those foods, it's about the higher rate of food-born illness from this foods. Although getting Listeria is very rare, it would almost certainly be fatal to the baby.

No. There is. No safe" amount of alcohol. They can say you can have wine. But it is never safe. Why drink when pregnant creating an unnecessary risk?

My Norwegian mom in law is a nurse and she's even poured me wine herself. I've had the odd small glass myself and will definitely consider one for Christmas or New Years too. Wine tastes good with food and I haven't found any conclusive data that definitely shows a glass once or twice a month will have any effect.

People eat tuna and take baths and walk outside on icy days and drive cars and lift heavy objects and eat lunch meats and sushi without all the preachy evangelizing so why is a glass of wine different? Do your own research from multiple sources, check out where their data is coming from, and make the decision that feels right for YOU. No need to judge others if they make a different choice

I mix my wine with sprite so i can make one glass last longer lol this way the alcohol is diluted so my theory is by the time it gets to baby there is almost nothing left of it.
Haven't had any recently though... kind of miss it but that's what happens when you are a social drinker and you are too freaking tired to go out.

I have only had a sip of beer my whole pregnancy and I'm 36 weeks. I definitely thought I'd be more of an occasional wine drinker during pregnancy but I've just had no desire. It's totally up to you and I don't think a glass here and there would be harmful!
