please help! regarding cps

My husband and I had a argument like any married couple but this time it got a little out of hand and he pushed the tv which caused it to fall back onto the wall and break. I called the police on him because I wasn't going to accept such behaviour now we have two children and cps got in contact with me and the courts and they have banned him from seeing or speaking to the children so far for a month until we attend court again as they want to do a 4 week investigation. I completely understand where they are coming from and they are only making sure my children are safe. Now this has torn our marriage apart and I am terrified my daughter and son won't see their father again or he won't be able to come home again. I do not condone his behaviour at all and it was completely wrong of him to do so with the kids in the house but I do know that he would never ever harm the children in fact he is a very involved loving father. I guess my question is  will they ban him completely? I don't know what to expect except the worst
