Is convincing him to do long distance worth it?

This guy and I have been talking for almost four months. We've been doing long distance for about a month but he starts a new job on Monday. He's worried about long distance because he'll be back in April, I leave for home in May to go back in August, and if he gets hired full time October. I asked if he just doesn't want a relationship with me or if it's the long distance and he responded he's scared a relationship with me will be all long distance. I want to give what we have a fighting chance but I'm worried he just wants to end things. I also know that if we do end things and he sees other people it'll kill me inside and it'll make it harder for me to give him a second chance in the future because he didn't think we were good enough to take a chance on and I don't want to see him with other people. I was hoping I could get some advice on if I should just leave it or continue to fight for it or to maybe get a new perspective on the situation. I don't want this to end but I don't want to be a second option when it's convenient to be with me.
