Can you describe what contractions feel like??

FTM here, was hoping I could have some people explain what contractions felt like and how they knew they were different than Braxton Hicks

My BH went straight across the top/middle of my belly and just felt really tight. They didn't hurt, but were just uncomfortable enough to let me know it was happening. Always the same, never got worse, and they would stop when I moved around or ate and drank something. My labor contractions started on the sides of my belly and met in the middle down under my belly where you get period cramps. They started mild and steadily got more intense no matter what I did. They felt like period cramps mixed with gas pains.

I genuinely thought they felt like period cramps... Braxton hicks just feels like tightening in abdomen  in beginning but as you get further along I find them to be fairly painful also
