When to leave for hospital, out of town

Hey everyone. I'm preggo with my first, and trying to figure out a rough plan. I live in a small rural town with shit medical care, so my Dr and hospital are 2 hours away. My hubby's parents live there as well, but I'm not sure when I need to go up there. Do I wait till water breaks, or till labor actually starts, or go up there a week before during date? I want to be at home as much as possible within reason, but I don't want to have a baby in the car either. Anyone been in this situation and have some advice?

I'd definitely talk to your dr/the hospital.  You're more than likely going to not wait for your water to break, that's often a final sign vs a first one. Though if it does that's a sign to go for sure.
My dr's rule is 3min apart, lasting 1 min each, consistent for 2hrs.  Hopefully they can give you a similar guideline, with just added time.  The standard is 5min apart lasting 1 min for 1hr, but that's probably too close for you.

I'm an hour away from the hospital. I'd talk to your Dr about it and make sure he understands your anxiety about the distance. They can give you a much better idea.
