Anybody use cio with our November babies?

Question

Im not sure how to get my little one to sleep on his own in his crib. I am open to suggestions but would really like to hear about your situation. My son has occasionally napped in the crib but was sleeping when put down.

Check out the book, "No Cry Sleep Solution" it was very helpful for me. My little guy takes 1-2 naps a day in his crib after only napping in my arms. I put him down for his morning nap 45-60 min after he wakes up after he first yawns & seems a little sleepy. I play the same classical music each day so he associates it w/ nap time. He look at his mobile & sucks on his fingers& fusses a bit, then falls asleep. Sometimes he cries a little but I set a 5 min timer & if he's still crying after 5 min I go in & comfort him or pick him up if he's over tired. Then once he's settled down we start over.

I won't ever use the CIO. I just find it cruel but that is my own opinion. I co sleep and don't mind cuddling my LO to sleep. Doesn't take long and she sleeps well so I am happy!

We did it last week and it only took one night! I had planned to use the 10-15-20 interval of checking on her if crying but it never even came to that. After about five minutes of crying she calmed herself down and I decided it was best to let her be. She whined a little more throughout the night and that was it- the following night she figured to skip the crying and get right to self soothing :) 
I should mention, my LO is a fairly good sleeper and that we just wanted her to sleep in her crib in the nursery. I also had the habit of sticking her pacifier in every time she made a noise in the night. The night we let her CIO we also eliminated the pacifier. So happy we got this over with!

We just tonight are trying the cradle. He was in the sleep but not quite asleep stage, so we placed him in his cradle with his giraffe snuggle. After about 5 minutes or less of chewing on the giraffe he was asleep. I moved the giraffe from his face after a bit. He likes something in his face when he falls asleep. I have no idea why! Now I am having a hard time going to sleep. He usually sleeps right in bed next to me, so this is weird and new for me.

I use Ferber method, but you need to read up on how to be sure theyre developmentally ready to STTN! My 4 month old is EBF and still has to eat 1-2 x per night so i won't be starting CIO yet. If she doesn't show signs of being ready to drop feedings by 5-6 months then ill wait until we start solids. I have started letting her "fuss" when she wakes at night and sometimes she just fusses and goes right back to sleep. If she starts her full on cry i get up, bc right now if i leave her cry she'll just get upset and i assume that she really is hungry/hasn't learned to soothe herself to sleep yet.

I did it at the back end of last week too. I will go in and soothe/give back dummy at 2minute intervals, first time it was just 2 min then next night 10 mins. Nothing since settles himself straight to sleep. 
I'm not a psychologist so I may be wrong but children don't have any true memories younger than 4 so I don't believe it will do lasting damage. My son still gives me big beaming smiles so he seems fine from it. He's 3.5 months. Outgrew his moses basket and there's no room in our room for his cot, so we bought an angel monitor and set him up in his nursery. I'm a better mum having had some sleep so providing he doesn't come to harm then I don't see a problem with it x

I don't believe that CIO should ever be used. It is really harmful if you research the effects that it can have on babies, not to mention that everywhere I've seen it is recommended for six months and up.

My LO has slept in his crib since we brought him home from the hospital so I can't speak from experience but I've read that you should consistently try to have baby sleep in there for naps and then at the beginning of the night, then if he/she wakes, put them where they were sleeping before. If you slowly increase the amount of time spent in the crib, it's supposed to be effective.

I'm just starting naps in the crib. And I was reading about how to transition. So I read this article that there's 2 different kinds of babies, ones who release tension by crying and ones who gain tension by crying. My daughter is the second one. That's why I can't do cry it out, she will scream and just make herself sick and never calm down till she's completely exhausted herself. That's why some people swear by cry it out, because it works for their kids. Their kids will cry for a little bit and then fall asleep really easy. I would suggest figuring out which your baby is. Can they cry for a little and then make themselves fall asleep or does crying make them more stressed out and work them up too much? My plan so far is still just bouncing/rocking her to sleep and laying her in the bed. Today's the first day she's slept longer than 30 mins in her crib! Good luck!

I did! Just did it last week. The first few nights were not easy but now she is putting herself to sleep and if she wakes up soothing herself back to sleep as well. Lots of people don't agree with it so you just have to do what makes you comfortable!

And for those critisizing for using CIO, she didn't ask if you agree with the method. Some of us struggle more than others with the lack of sleep, and for those suffering from various mental illnesses (ppd, anxiety, depression, or y others), the negative symptoms of those illnesses are exasserbated by a lack of sleep. Above all is, this Mommyhood stuff is hard for all of us in different ways, and we're all trying our best, so let's don't judge each other.
