2 1/2 mo old- dr. said stop feeding middle of night

Hi- my doctor just told me to wean my baby off of night feedings for the next 10 days in order for him to sleep through the night. I was wondering if anyone else's doctor has told them this? I can tell my son is hungry the way he furiously tries to eat his hands...and with my daughter (8 yrs ago) she just slept through the night so I didn't have to do this. Confused!!! Everything online says after 6 months to do it.
