Delayed cord clamping?

Has anyone done this, or is planning to? If you have please tell me about it! I'm interested in doing this, only thing is.. my baby will be born in a hospital.

My first was born in a hospital and we did delayed cord clamping. Just tell your doctor you want to. It only takes an extra minute or two and is becoming very common practice, so it shouldn't be a big deal at all. The purpose of delayed cord clamping is to let all the blood from the placenta travel back to the baby before cutting it off, which increases baby's iron stores.

We delay cord clamping/cutting. Basically you just don't cut the cord or mess with it, at all, until blood stops pulsing through it. My first baby I don't think it was delayed as long as I wanted because he needed to go get checked out for a moment. My second baby we waited until it was done pulsing completely.

Is baby able to be placed on your chest or belly, or does the doctor just hold them there until it's cut?

I did it. Daughter was born a week late and we needed to use the vacuum to get her out. Doc said typically that combo is a recipe for jaundice and she has been so perfect with no signs of jaundice and she's 2 weeks. Other than that I don't know what other signs we would see but I'm happy we did it. Kept her attached for 8 min until the cord stopped throbbing.

Talk to your doctor about it. Just because baby will be born at a hospital doesn't mean they won't do it.

We did it. The cord drained very quickly. I wish I would of left it attached until placenta was born

I didn't do it with my daughter but did it with my son. The only thing that I noticed was different was he was really pink and red for the first two months of life. Haven't noticed anything else different yet but my son is only three months....
