My sisters has always had my back through my pregnancy and basically everything! She adores my child, and well she's the only one who keeps up with him on the daily basis, so involved in his little life. My husbands says she can't B.C. She is gay. And the priest won't even allow it.

I think you have to be a baptized practicing catholic to be a godparent.

That being said, we're not religious at all so we don't have godparents for my son, but my best friend is his self-proclaimed "fairy godmother." She's closer to me than a sister and is the most wonderful supportive person I know. Even if your sister can't be an "official" godparent doesn't mean that you can't honour her role in your child's life.

You don't have to declare your sexual preference .... she will have to prove she was baptized catholic and that she was confirmed.  She will have to do the classes too and that's it.  Who cares about her being gay.  If she's had your back and adores your baby - that's alllll that matters.  Just say she's single not married and call it a day.

Yes. They have to be catholic though. I am godmother to my nephew. The Godfather is gay.

I mean that's not something they ask. You do not have to divulge that because it's personal. You usually have to have two people and one has to be a practicing catholic. Being gay? I don't think that's something they need to know or does it matter or is it relevant.
