Traumatic birth but I am so happy baby is finally here!

Sarah
At 39+2 weeks my waters surprisingly went at home after a quick walk along the beach, went into triage to confirm and discovered pulse was very high so had to stay. Contractions began an hour later and became progressively worse quite quickly, examined and only at 1cm dilated- oral pain medication given. Admitted to delivery room where labour progressed further, had to walk the corridors and use birthing ball to encourage baby to engage further, examined again and stuck at 2cm so the decision to begin hormone drip was arranged. Epidural discussed and agreed as pain was pretty intense by this point, four failed attempts to administer which was hard going when you have to sit as still as possible whilst contracting and have needles in your spine! Once given the pain relief was instant and I managed a couple of hours sleep. Woke up to feeling contractions again which were unbearable! Discovered I reached 10cm within four hours and could start pushing. Epidural topped up, pushed for two hours with midwife telling me when to start. Baby's head stuck in birth canal so assisted birth was needed. I had to be cut twice and foreceps used, but after one final big push my beautiful baby girl was born. Began skin to skin whilst it took the dr two hours to stitch me back up down below, significant blood loss which they found hard to control. I then had a temp spike and contracted sepsis which needed immediate care with IV antibiotics. Admitted to high dependency for the night for closer care. Condition improved by the morning and I was moved onto the normal delivery ward along side other new mums, I got out of hospital two days later on pain medication and blood injections due to having anemia from the blood loss, healing is slow and painful but my beautiful baby makes it all worth while!
