Evidence Based Care
Does your provider follow "Evidence Based Care" or hospital policy? Do you know how to differentiate the two? Do you know where you can find facts about evidence based care?
I would like to strike up a conversation about what we currently know to be evidence based and what's not. What are your rights as a patient? What REALLY makes your birth safer or more dangerous? What makes your birth faster or slower? Easier or harder?
For example: While some hospitals have a policy that mom should be on bed rest following the waters breaking, it is found that's not evidence based. Evidence shows there is no increased risk of cord prolapse or other risk, however, hospitals such as those in Alabama are notorious for bullying mothers on to their backs as soon as they are admitted. In fact, continuing to labor on your back prolongs the birth process as well as adds sufficient discomfort and distress to the birthing woman.
