Postpartum sex

So it has been a little over 4 weeks since I have birth. I teared quit a bit and had stitches. Today me and my LO tried to have sex and it hurt really bad, I had to stop him before he could go all the way in. How much longer will I have to wait😐 still waiting for the postpartum check up but wondering what you ladies have to say from experience.
