Any mommies familiar with lip/tounge tie?

I feel like a bad mom for not noticing any thing wrong with my daughter. When she was born she wouldn't latch on at birth so I gave in and gave her formula. She would, and to this day still does, have some trouble keeping her mouth on the bottles nipple during feeding, I am a FTM so i thought nothing about it. She also gets really bad chapped lips at the tip of her top lip like so:

As I said, as a FTM I seriously thought it was normal. I had no clue it was possible to have a tight frenulum. It wasn't until I began to notice that my daughters teeth had a thick gap on top, from what looked like her gums and thought to myself "that's not right.. Is it supposed to look that way?" This is the picture I saw when I realized that something wasn't right?

My baby just had her first physical the day before I saw this. I began to research and actually came across lip tie and how it could be the problem. I immediately called the doctors office and they gave me an appointment for next Monday. So, here I am asking if any of you discovered this as late as I have. I feel extremely bad because my baby has been going through this and I easily could have avoided it if I saw it beforehand. I'm not blaming myself but I still feel horrible at the fact. My baby was in the nicu for a week before she came home due to low platelet level count and received transfusions to help regulate them. If I had seen this, or even a nurse, I would've requested her to properly diagnosed by a doctor and then asked for treatment. My baby currently has her lip red from the piece of skin that falls (on a regular basis) from the tip of her lip and it makes me worry that I don't know if it's really painful for her or not.

I added pictures to see if any of you can assure me it is lip tie, and maybe explain the whole treatment process? Will it would have to wait since she currently has her top teeth coming out?

If it's confirmed she has a lip tie make sure they check for a tongue tie. They come as a packaged deal a majority of the time. I'm on a Facebook group about them. What state are you in? I can share the doctor information on the best doctors/dentists in your state for toes!

That looks like a lip tie! A lot of the time doctors don't even fix lip ties unless it interferes with nursing. When they lose their baby teeth and adult teeth come in, it won't even be noticeable anymore! I know lots of kids with lip ties. The little boy I nanny has one, he is 4, and it's never been a problem!

Yup, definitely a lip tie. My daughter's was discovered at 1 week old, and her lip chapped and got that blister. Hers was very severe, it wrapped all the way around to the back of her gums! 
My understanding is that a specialized dentist is the one that fixes it. I would definitely do that bc it can make speech more difficult as well as cause issues with teeth. It might not, but why risk it?

Lip ties often times break on their own within the first few years, whether it be from a slight fall or accidental bump on the mouth. When this happens, I will warn you, it does bleed a lot. But this bleeding is completely normal and is non-emergent, the bleeding will stop and it will heal within a week or so. However if the lip tie is interfering with feeding, I would recommend you go see a doctor and have it clipped, which is also a simple and quick procedure that is beneficial in the long run.

Definitely a lip tie. I'd see if there's a dentist in the area that specializes in removing it with a laser. That's what I did with my daughter and the recovery was a breeze! Just make sure you do the exercises they give you, or the frenulum (the tie) will return. Also be aware that generally there is a tongue tie that occurs with a lip tie.

My son has the same thing. I brought it up to the doc at his first check up when he was 5 days old, he said he wasn't worried. Some break by themselves, some require clipping when they're older, some don't require any intervention. It isn't anything to freak over. It's ok that you're just noticing, that doesn't make you a bad mom

We had a terrible time nursing when my son was born! We saw both a lactation consultant and the pediatrician, and neither of them caught it until I went back to the peed and showed him exactly why I thought he had a lip tie. Turns out he had BOTH!    It took weeks to figure out, poor dude. It was only thanks to my sister sending me a blog article by a woman who had a similar story of medical pros not catching it, or I probably would have never figured it out and would have given up trying to breastfeed! Don't feel bad at all! The awareness of ties is REALLY LOW from what I've learned in my experience, and even medical professionals don't always catch them! It really is just a guessing game.

I noticed my son has a lip tie and brought it up at his 4 month appt. the doctor said that unless it affects his speech, they don't worry about it. the only reason i was worried is because I have a lip and tongue tie and they didn't know until I was a child and I had to get my lip snipped.

My baby boy had a lip tie, I didn't really notice until I went to a lactation consultant because he didn't latch well and I had really chapped nipples. In the end the lactation consultant suggested "cutting his lip tie" so that we could continue to breastfeed. Needless to say I refused to cut anything on my child and started to pump and bottle feed. He is a year old and perfectly healthy, lip tie and all.

Lip tie! My baby had 3 ties and also had the lip callous from sucking. Get it checked out!
