is it ok to start putting my daughter in "time out"?

my daughter is almost 15 months old and my husband and I have been disciplining her for the past month by putting her in time out (putting her in her playpen with out toys) alone in her room for 5-10 minutes. my question is: is she too young still? I'm more hesitant to punish her and it's caused fights between my husband and I. Any constructive feedback is appreciated.

I took child development and I was told don't put them longer then their age so 1 one minute 2 two minutes and so on

I would say 5-10 min is excessive. It's a min per year of age. I sit my kids down where they're at and while yeah, I have to sit them back down every once in awhile, they get the point and are more polite when they get back up.

If she's throwing a tantrum, for no reason, she's probably tired. When my kids were little even younger then 15 months and started being fussy and throwing them selfs etc, I'd put them in there bed till they calmed down or went to sleep. I never called it time out. I just didn't give them attention for negative behavior. I'm a bit older and it seems a lot has changed, in way people believe on how to discipline. But it's worked for me. And my mom did it with me.

just want to add, when she's in timeout she shouldn't have access to any of her play things or it will quickly turn into her behaving badly to get time to play alone.  but do what works best for you! you know her best!

They don't yet have the ability to reason, she doesn't understand why your putting her in time out. At this age the best methods to use are distraction or redirection until their brains have developed more
