Midwife booked a sweep & stretch? 😦

Question

Can someone tell me what this is and any experiences they had with this? She's doing it at a home appt Next Week if I don't labour naturally before then but didn't explain what it is 😳... I looked it up on Google but still don't fully understand. Is it messy? Will it hurt? TIA

Your midwife will use her fingers to reach inside your cervix and "sweep" along the amniotic sac to separate it from the wall of your cervix. 
It is uncomfortable and can be very painful for some women, especially depending on how high and soft your cervix is. The good news is, it's quick. Less than a minute.

She will check your cervix, and while doing so will try and stretch it and loosen your mucus plug to help get
Things moving. Not guaranteed it will do anything. Had one done last Friday, still
No baby. Had cramping and some bloody mucus that day but that's it.
