Transitioning to milk ????

Question

My son is getting ready to turn 1 tomorrow I plan to start transitioning him to milk. I do not drink milk at all 🤢 my husband only drinks almond or cashew milk, so I am not sure what to do!?!?!? 
Our per obviously says cows milk is best if we aren't doing formula or breast milk anymore, he hasn't showed any type of dairy allergy either, I'm not not sure what to give him I'm torn! I hate cows milk and the thought of it 🤢🤢🤢

Your kid isn't a cow he doesn't need cow milk. Plenty of ways to get calcium.

I've heard that they need the nutrition from cows milk that almond milk doesn't offer. I'd just keep a gallon for him.

You could do goats milk. One of my friends does that instead of cows milk not sure if that's less gross to you lol

I read somewhere (kellymom.com ? ) that alternating between different types of milk is good. That way they get different vitamins etc.    But perhaps it's best to try one type over a period of time to see how it's digested.

My pediatrician said it doesn't matter what they drink. After 1 it's just a drink and not the main form of nutrition. We never did cows milk. I did almond milk because he liked having a bottle with naps and bedtime..until one day he decided he didn't like milk at all. He's almost 3 and doing great! I don't think there is an absolute right answer, its just what works best for you and your kids.

I doubt almond milk has the calories that they need from the whole milk. So I'd just keep using breastmilk or formula a bit longer if you don't want to give whole milk.

Almond milk does NOT have the fat they need. They use whole cows milk for the fat it has, because their developing brain needs it.
I didn't want my daughter drinking it either. But almond, coconut, or other milks like those are not sufficient. Goats milk might be? But that's not much different than cows milk. Just so the cows milk until 2 and then switch.

We're planning on alternating. I only use almond milk for my own stuff but I know he needs the stuff in cows milk too so we'll have a bit of both on hand.
